Architect at The Classic Architecture Company – FOUR YEARS & THREE MONTHS

Architect at The Classic Architecture Company – FOUR YEARS & THREE MONTHS
The Classic Architecture Company is a small practice with a focus on traditional and contemporary residential architecture. I have worked at all RIBA work stages including gaining planning permission and listed building consent on a number of challenging sites. I have experience with a number of interesting historic and modern building techniques and technologies including: MVHR systems, traditional oak frames, frameless glass, swimming pools, window/door joinery, restoration, SIPs and masonry work. In the last two years of my employment I moved away from compiling planning and detailed design packages and into a more senior position. I managed a small team of architectural technicians and focused mainly on the ‘job running’ of projects with weekly site inspections, resolving on-site technical issues, contract administration and valuation of interim certificates.

Project Manager at Beyond English – EIGHT MONTHS

Project Manager at Beyond English – EIGHT MONTHS
This American owned company based in Chile is a social enterprise that funds voluntary projects through English teaching. Over ten months I created, implemented and completed a project based in Santiago to teach a group of underprivileged children about architecture, recycling and how to build. I partnered with a local school, a local Non-Governmental Organization and the local council. The project went ahead in two phases: during the three weeks of phase one I taught the children how to design by drawing and model making at different scales using a curriculum I had created myself. The children designed a school, their dream house and then worked collaboratively to design a real life garden for their school. Phase two involved physically constructing the children’s designs, this lasted for six weeks and included the successful build of a large bench constructed from concrete and recycled bottle bricks that were collected by the school. The entire project was conducted in Spanish. For more details please follow the link.

Architectural Designer at Fundación Las Parcelas la Pintana – TWO MONTHS

Architectural Designer at Fundación Las Parcelas la Pintana – TWO MONTHS
Fundación Las Parcelas is a small charity that cares for a group of around 40 children in a very deprived area of Santiago in Chile. I volunteered my time to design a small structure (Galpon) and playground to be used by Fundación Las Parcelas. This was an opportunity to lead a project from inception to completion and a useful lesson in communication through drawing. I still keep links with this charity and recently fundraised to help pay for the relocation and expansion of the charity.

Key projects included Pate’s Grammar School where I worked with the senior architect to consider several feasibility schemes to improve the school, Merlin PRC where I was asked to look at the feasibility for refurbishment or replacement of several multi house plots in South Bristol owned by a housing authority and Worcester Sixth Form College where I worked on the detailed design package of drawings for four storey science/IT extension building.
