Brief Bio

I am a fully qualified Architect with over seven years of professional experience. I have worked predominately with one-off houses and extensions for individual clients, working with modern and historic listed buildings. I also have experience in the education, health and social housing sectors.

As an architect my focus is on delivering buildings that suit and enhance the specific needs of the client and their day to day living habits. I believe design should be functional, attractive, sustainable and cost-effective.

I believe that new houses and extensions should be environmentally friendly and I have a keen
interest in designing buildings that are specific to their location and environment. A building should maximize and harness the benefits of natural light, the heat from the sun, the prevailing wind, and orientate towards the best views. This belief has been developed with my background in designing houses to Passivhaus principles, which takes into consideration the overall functioning of a building throughout the day and during different seasons.

Where possible I think it is important for Architects to engage fully in the construction process and work closely with clients and the construction team in order to deliver the best possible outcome.

Detailed Design and Building Regulations

In most cases a Building Control Inspector will need to assess a project before work starts. A 'detailed design' set of drawings can be produced which will also assist a contractor with pricing the works.

On Site Supervision and Contract Administration

To ensure that quality is maintained it may be advisable to retain an architect's services to oversee and inspect the project on a regular basis including overseeing contract administration.

Passivhaus Principles and Low Carbon

I have experience designing houses to Passivhaus principles and also promote the use of building materials that have a low carbon footprint.

For existing buildings it is usually necessary to measure and draw the existing arrangement of the building. I also have experience with creating 3D models and visualisations.
